Search Page

The Search page shows products, pages, and blog posts that match a customer's query. Customers can filter and sort results in a grid you set up in the theme editor.

Where to find this

Shopify Admin → Online Store → Themes → Customize

Pick Search from the page dropdown at the top, or run a search on your storefront preview and click through to the results page.

Product grid

Columns on desktop

Sets how many product cards appear per row on large screens. Default: 4 · Options: 2–5

Usage

  • Use fewer columns when product titles or badges need more room.
  • Use more columns when search returns many products and you want a dense grid.

Columns on tablet

Sets how many product cards appear per row on tablet-sized screens. Default: 3 · Options: 2–4

Usage

  • Match your collection page grid if you want search results to feel consistent.

Columns on mobile

Sets how many product cards appear per row on phones. Default: 2 · Options: 1–2

Usage

  • Use 1 column for larger product images and longer titles.
  • Use 2 columns to show more results above the fold.

Search behavior

Product-only search

Limits results to products only when turned on. Default: Off

Usage

  • Leave off to include pages and blog articles in search results.
  • Turn on for a product-focused results page.

Filters

Shows filter options on the search results page. Default: On

Usage

  • Customize available filters in the Search and Discovery app in Shopify admin.
  • Turn off for a simpler results layout without facets.

Sorting

Shows a sort dropdown so customers can reorder results. Default: On

Usage

  • Helpful when search returns many products and customers want price or relevance sorting.
  • Turn off to hide the sort control and keep the toolbar minimal.

Show filter group on active filter chips

Adds the filter group name to each active filter chip, such as Color: Red. Default: Off

Usage

  • Turn on when several filters could share similar labels and customers need clearer context.
  • Leave off for shorter chips when filter names are already obvious.
